SEC cracks down on sloppy auditors

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved stricter rules targeting auditor negligence, despite opposition from two Republican commissioners who voiced concerns about potential negative impacts on audit quality and the profession. The changes, championed by PCAOB Chair Erica Williams and aligned with SEC Chair Gary Gensler's vision, aim to strengthen oversight of accounting firms auditing public companies.
